What It’s Like to Stay at the U.S. Olympic Training Center

The U.S. Olympic Complex in Colorado Springs is the flagship training center for the U.S. Olympic Committee and the Olympic Training Center Programs. Earlier this month, I attended #SwimBiz and was able to live the Olympic Experience by staying at the OTC for 4 days during my visit to Colorado Springs.

The Training Center rests on a 35-acre complex located near downtown Colorado Springs. The center has sport venues for fencing, gymnastics, judo, modern pentathlon, shooting, swimming, taekwondo, weightlifting and wrestling. The complex can accommodate 500 athletes and coaches at any given time, and the dining all serves over 300,000 meals per year!

You truly feel part of the Olympic movement walking from building to building at the OTC. The main walkway is known as the flag path and a reminder that the Olympic & Paralympic Games are the world’s biggest stage.
Every morning I was able to get in a workout at the newly re-vamped Ted Stevens Sports Services Center. This state of the art weight lifting facility was my gym away from home during my time in Colorado Springs. The Training Center sits at a relatively high elevation (approximately 6,250 feet above sea level), which is purposeful to improve training effectiveness. Believe me, I felt it!

The dining hall at the OTC is nothing less than you’d expect out of a world-class buffet. The staff take a scientific approach to appropriating meals throughout the athlete cafeteria. Every food item is clearly marked with its nutritional content and portion sizing. I couldn’t help but enjoy eating steak during one of the mornings after my lift!

It was an honor to walk in the footsteps of legends! The OTC is a reminder of what the pinnacle of athletic achievement looks like, and it’s clear the dedication and hard work that goes into producing outstanding world-class athletic performance.

It was a thrill, and I hope to be back soon!
