Short Course World Championships (Windsor 2016)

Windsor, Canada may be known as a hockey town, but for the first part of December, the Ontario city welcomed athletes from over 170 countries for the 14th FINA World Swimming Championships.

The venue itself was transformed from a hockey rink into a swimming pool, and over 30,000 spectators watched the world’s best compete for 46 medals across 6 days of competition. The Canadian home crowd was not disappointed with Olympic stars Penny Oleksiak and Kylie Masse capturing World Titles for their fans!

The competition was dominated by the big names from Rio including the Iron Lady (Katinka Hosszú) of Hungary and Chad Le Clos of South Africa who were both awarded swimmer’s of the meet. Hosszú medaled in an incredible 9 individual events winning gold in 7 of them! Le Clos swept the butterfly events crushing his own world record in the 100m.

The Championships took place following the World Aquatics Convention, which brought together delegates and coaches from each national federation to discuss the growth of the sport. You can checkout our full coverage of that once-every-two year conference here.
