2019 Ontario Masters Provincial Championships Highlights

MySwimPro is proud to be the Official Swim Technology Partner of Masters Swimming Canada. Last month, they hosted the 2019 Ontario Masters Provincial Championships and MySwimPro Community Member Carly Cermak is sharing her experience at the meet!

Check out what Carly had to say about the meet:
Swim Ontario Masters Provincials hosted by the Etobicoke Olympium Masters Aquatic Club (EOMAC) was a great opportunity for Canadian Masters swimmers to throw on a racing suit and go for best times. The Olympium is a fast pool known for hosting National-level meets and did not disappoint.

One of my highlights was watching my 95 year old teammate Kalis Rasmussen break 5 world records. My awe for Kalis goes beyond her fast times clocked in the pool; it is her dedication to the sport and positive attitude that makes her a celebrity in my books. Excitingly, Kalis’ love for swimming was felt beyond the pool.
Check out Kalis’ interview below and how she brings joy to her life.

Kalis broke 5 world records in the 95-99 age group category for short course meters. She was the only swimmer in her age group competing in the meet! Here are her times:

Another highlight was getting a chance to race a former Olympian- Susana Escobar, sister of EOMAC’s head coach Luis Escobar. Even though Susanna does not train with EOMAC, her support was felt by all team members. Check out this action shot of Susanna in her 200IM.

Overall, what keeps me in the pool after so many years of racing in both club and varsity, is the camaraderie felt at masters swim meets. These meets provide an uplifting atmosphere that cannot be created in any other sporting environment. The energy from this year’s Provincials created an exciting buzz, one that was suddenly absent on Monday when we all had to go back to work. I look forward to getting this energy buzz back at the end of the month when I race at Canadian Masters Swimming Nationals in Montreal!
