Domenico Sottile | #AskASwimPro Show

On this episode of the #AskASwimPro show, we’re in Mesa, Arizona at the 2019 U.S. Masters Nationals Championships. MySwimPro community member Domenico Sottile (@theofficialdomenicosottile) shares how by training with the MySwimPro app, he made an incredible comeback in his swimming – and earned 5 medals at Nationals!

Meet Domenico:

Hi MySwimPro community! My name is Domenico Sottile, and I live in Denver, Colorado, butI am originally from Venezuela. I am a 2019 Top-10 U.S. Masters Swimmer and a lover of life! I grew up swimming, qualified for Olympic Trials in 2008, then took some time off from the sport. After 10 long years, I decided to jump back in the pool and go after my new goals. With the help of the MySwimPro app, I now train regularly, and compete at the national level through U.S. Masters Swimming.

A bit more about me, I love to travel, dance, make new friends, and work as a Personal Trainer. My background as a Trainer Specialist is in rehabilitation and sport nutrition. My love for sport pushes me so much in my career, I recently also got certified as an Assistant Physical Therapist with a minor in Chiropractics.

I speak English, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish and I am so excited to connect with swimmers around the world through MySwimPro!

Interview Notes:

His Swimming Journey

I swam competitively since I was 5 years old, I always loved it! Below are some of the highlights from my swimming career:

Like many other swimmers, I decided to take a break after a while, which ended up being 10 full years! Just 3 months ago I decided to jump back in the pool, and start swimming again. I started training with the MySwimPro app and followed the workouts and training plans in the app. It really helped me get my technique back on track and to focus on the right type of workouts!

“Following the workouts in the MySwimPro app has really kept my training focused and specific. I just love it”

I just recently competed at the 2019 U.S. Masters Nationals and had the time of my life racing again. Here are my results for the 40-44 age group division:

What Motivates You?

Being a competitive swimmer requires a lot of work and practice, in and out of the pool. I’ve been working on different methods of training that keep me motivated and encouraged everyday, so I can work to improve my mistakes. I think switching it up keeps things interesting. I set short-term and long-term goals, so I can follow the path to success.

With the MySwimPro app, it’s really easy to commit to a 6-week training plan, and just follow the steps to complete your training. When my schedule gets really busy, or I can’t make masters swim practices, it’s really nice having my workouts planned right on my phone.

What’s next in my swimming? Mission Viejo in August,  Medellin next year, and maybe Brazil for the Pan American Masters Games!
