What Is The International Swimming League (ISL)?

The International Swimming League is a groundbreaking global professional team competition launched in 2019 that is set to revolutionize the sport of swimming.

Male and female swimmers will be competing to win points for their clubs in regular season and derby matches across Europe and the United States in October and November — before a grand final featuring the top four teams (two U.S., two European) in Las Vegas, Nevada, in December, when the inaugural ISL Champions will be crowned.

Each team will bring a roster of up to 14 men and 14 women to their respective matches, with the teammates’ joint points tallies (not medals or times) earning their team its placing in the overall league table.

The innovative format for the opening season will see 8 clubs (Cali Condors, DC Trident, Aqua Centurions, Energy Standard, LA Current, NY Breakers, Iron, and London Roar) compete in Indianapolis, IN., Naples ITA, Lewisville TX., Budapest HUN, College Park MD., and London GBR, before the grand final in Las Vegas on December 20-21, 2019.

A match consists of two 2-hour sessions held over two days with four teams competing. The match-winning club is determined based on the points total of each club at the end of the second session. The program on each day includes events for both female and male athletes. The coach of each team picks two athletes to take part in each event. Athletes earn points for their teams. The overall points result for each team is the total number of points won over the two days.
