Australia maintained its winning streak in the women’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay, winning gold — and setting a new world record!

Despite coming off the 100-meter butterfly semifinals earlier in the session Emma McKeon swam a solid 51.35. Cate Campbell swam an incredible anchor leg, finishing more than 3 seconds ahead of Canadian Penny Oleksiak and touching in a blazing 3:29.69.

The race for silver and bronze was much tighter, with the United States taking bronze just 0.03 behind Canada.

American Simone Manuel didn’t make the US Olympic team in the 100 free, but anchored this relay with a speedy 52.96. It wasn’t enough — Oleksiak (who Manuel tied for gold in the 100 fre in 2016) out-touched her at the finish.
