Turkey Trot Swim Workout

Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃

This Turkey Trot swim workout is themed after one of the most celebrated parts of the Thanksgiving day holiday: Eating! Each set-group is themed after a different part of the Thanksgiving Day meal. Every set will test your abilities and generate a big appetite. There are four workout levels:

Thanksgiving is a public holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November in the United States. It originated as a harvest festival, and today in modern culture it’s an opportunity to connect with family, give thanks and swim.

Turkey Day Drill: 3 Strokes + 6 Kicks

Each Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot workout incorporates a short drill set in the appetizer warmup. The drill selection of this session is 3 strokes + 6 kicks. Checkout the video and explanation below!

3 strokes with 6 kicks helps you balance your freestyle stroke and improves your coordination by taking three strokes, then balancing on your side for six kicks. Focus on driving the rotation with your hips and legs rather than your arms and add a pair of fins to help keep your body position high.

The Turkey Trot Mile 🦃

One Mile is about 1,600 meters (1760 yards to be exact). This Turkey Trot Mile workout is great for beginner swimmers to work up an appetite and celebrate Thanksgiving!

The Main Set: Oven Glazed Turkey calls for two helpings of a 200 Freestyle followed by 4 x 50s Pull, and then a 100 FRIM. It’s a great set to work all energy systems and build appetite for two servings of Pumpkin pie at the end!

The Turkey Trot 3k 🦃

3k is 3,000 meters (about 3,300 yards). This Turkey Trot 3k workout is great for intermediate swimmers to work up an appetite and celebrate Thanksgiving!

The Main Set: Oven Glazed Turkey calls for two helpings of a 300 Freestyle followed by 4 x 50s Pull, and then a 200 FRIM. It’s preceded by a Pre-Turkey ladder that goes 300, 200, 100. It’s a great set to work all energy systems and build appetite for four servings of Pumpkin pie at the end!

The Turkey Trot 5k 🦃

On Thanksgiving morning, some people participate in a local 5k run. For swimmers, it’s a swim workout! 5k is 5,000 meters (about 5,500 yards). This Turkey Trot 5k workout is great for intermediate to advanced swimmers to work up an appetite and celebrate Thanksgiving!

The Main Set: Oven Glazed Turkey calls for two helpings of a 400 Freestyle followed by 4 x 100s Pull, then 8 x 50s Free, and then a 200 FRIM. It’s preceded by a Pre-Turkey ladder that goes 300, 200, 100. It’s a great set to work all energy systems and build appetite for multiple servings of Pumpkin pie at the end!

The Turkey Trot 10k 🦃

On Thanksgiving morning, some people participate in a local 5k or 10k run. For swimmers, it’s a swim workout! 10k is 10,000 meters (almost 11,000 yards). This Turkey Trot 10k workout is great for advanced swimmers to work up an appetite and celebrate Thanksgiving in style!

The Main Set: Oven Glazed Turkey calls for three helpings of a 400 Freestyle followed by 8 x 100s Pull, then 8 x 50s Free, and then 3 x 200 FRIM. It’s preceded by a Pre-Turkey ladder that goes two rounds of: 300, 200, 100. It’s a great set to work all energy systems and build appetite for multiple servings of Pumpkin pie at the end!
