This week, we caught up with Ken Cooper, a competitive open water swimmer and Masters swimmer who has been swimming with MySwimPro while living in Hong Kong.

Meet Ken Cooper

Ken Cooper lived in Hong Kong for the better part of 20 years, but has recently returned to the USA to Greenville, South Carolina. He’s now swimming alone with MySwimPro and with the Greenville Splash Masters program.

“I really love the new team and meeting the new people. Swimming is such a social activity.”

Originally from California, Ken was a NCAA Division I swimmer at the University of California at Irvine and men’s swim team captain where he swam the 200 and 400 IM, as well as the 100 and 200 breaststroke and 100 butterfly.
With his IM background, Ken coached stroke technique and body positioning efficiency with more advanced swimmers while in Hong Kong with Fastlane Swimming.

Ken taught all three of his kids to swim by the age of 3 and volunteered his time to teach beginners by volunteering at Splash Foundation, a program that teaches swimming and water safety for under-served communities in Hong Kong.

He’s also an active participant in Masters swimming competitions, open-water swimming community in Hong Kong and a free diver. Outside of swimming, he enjoys spending time with his family, running, mountain biking, and going to the gym.

Swimming Accomplishments:

  • Hong Kong Open Water Clean Half 2017 – Mixed Relay team Champion!
  • Current Hong Kong Masters Swimming record holder in both the LCM 50 and 100 Breaststroke (45-49 age group).

How He Trains with MySwimPro

Ken’s primary goal is maintain his level of fitness, which requires constant attention as he gets older. After some years off from swimming, he’s back to being really passionate about swimming.

“MySwimPro has allowed me to get back into swimming after many years of being away.”

After using the Strava app, he was searching for a swimming-focused app that had more options for creating workouts and logging – that’s when he found MySwimPro.

Ken likes to pre-log all his workouts so he has a plan when he shows up to the pool. Having one place to log all his workouts and personal best times from his competitions keeps his training schedule on-track.

“I love logging my sessions on MySwimPro because it allows me to show up to the pool with a plan and track my progress.”

You are crushing it, Ken! Thanks for sharing your story, keep up the hard work, and good luck in your next race!
