A Swim Before Christmas Carol

Huge shout out to Mike Hutchinson and Tim Ross for crafting an incredibly heart warming carol for our swim group at the Detroit Athletic Club!

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all thro’ the DAC,
No member was swimming, not even Carlyie;
The goggles were hung by the pool with care,
In hopes that Fares soon would be there;
The swimmers were stuffed all snug in their suits,
While some were quite old, there were others quite cute.
With Mike and his snorkel, and us in our caps,
We dove in our lanes for a couple of laps
When out on the deck there arose such a clatter,
We sprang from our blocks to swim our next ladder.
Away to the end we swam like a flash
Tore through our flip turns, and swam back in a dash.
The moon through the window reflecting the new fallen snow,
Made it hard to see the workout on our MySwimPro;
When, what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But Fares Ksebati, and eight swimmers in all their gear,
With such a great coach so much in the know,
We knew in a moment we’d be ready to go.
More rapid than eagles his swimmers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
“Now! Hutch, now! Houlf, now! Ross, and McDuffee,
Oh! Banas, on! Brooks, on! Thompson and Carlyie!
To the end of the pool! and back to the Wall!
“Now swim away! swim away! swim away all!”
So back and forth the swimmers they flew,
With paddles and fins – and parachutes too:
And then in a twinkling, we heard “On The Top!”
All panting and wondering when will this stop!
With a wink of his eye we knew we’d nothing to dread
So we kicked on our backs with a cup on our heads
He spoke not a word, and having no fit,
Went straight to the board and recorded our splits
Then laying a marker aside of his nose
And giving a nod, everyone froze,
He jumped in the pool, to his swimmers gave a shout
And away they all swam, like a stream full of trout:
But we heard him exclaim, ere he swam out of sight –
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
