The Iron Lady Katinka Hosszú’s reign has ended! Japanese swimmer Yui Ohashi won gold in the 400-meter IM with a blazing 4:32.08.
Ohashi maintained a solid lead, holding off the rest of the field despite looking fatigued late in the race. Americans Emma Weyant and Hali Flickinger took silver and bronze, in 4:32.76 and 4:34.90.
After a rough race in the qualifying heats, Hosszú made it to finals in 7th. All the way in lane 1 for the final, she held onto 3rd for a while, but ultimately touched 5th. Until this race, she had been undefeated in the 400 IM in international competition.
