Caeleb Dressel has officially won his first individual Olympic medal! He snagged a gold medal in the men’s 100-meter freestyle, setting a new Olympic record in 47.02.

Dressel was out to an early lead, and it looked like Kliment Kolesnikov of Russia was going to overtake him, but Dressel powered through to touch first. Kyle Chalmers of Australia took silver, finishing just 0.06 behind Dressel for a 47.08. Kolesnikov finished 3rd for bronze, in 47.44

After seeing the scoreboard, Dressel broke down in tears, the weight of the moment overwhelming him. All his hard work paid off! He has more chances to snag a medal in the men’s 50-meter free and 100-meter butterfly later this week.
