How to Swim Faster

There are only two ways to swim faster: Decreasing drag and increasing propulsion.

Decrease Drag

Water is 800 times more dense than air, so you MUST decrease drag to swim faster.

To decrease drag, work on your body position, keep your hips high, narrow your kick, and most importantly, look down when you swim. 

The wall isn’t going anywhere, so keep your eyes on the bottom of the pool!

Increase Propulsion

The second way to swim faster is to increase propulsion. Remember these three letters: EVF.

EVF is short for Early Vertical Forearm, which is the optimal hand and arm position for your pull. 

Enter the water with your fingertips and keep your elbow high all the way through the pull. This turns your hand and forearm into one giant paddle, allowing you to pull more water and swim faster. It also helps take stress off your shoulders. Learn more about EVF here >
